Places
of Interest
There is lots to see and do in Carcoar and the local area. Leave yourself plenty of time to explore what is on offer.
Mount
Macquarie
When
Thomas Mitchell first surveyed the area in the early 1800s, he commented
on the Three Peaks - Mount Panorama near Bathurst, Mount Canobolas near
Orange, and Mount Macquarie which is a short distance to the south east
of Carcoar.
A
drive from Carcoar across "The Mount" gives wonderful views
in all directions.
Head south along Naylor Street and drive straight up the steep hill. The
road is not sealed but is very 'driveable'.
Situated
about 1km from the Mid Western Highway between Carcoar and Blayney,
Carcoar Dam provides irrigation water for farming and mining further south.
It is an ideal recreation and picnic area, popular with anglers and lovers of water
sports, with a boat launching ramp. Good free camping sites and facilities are available.
Built
to supply power for the Essential Energy grid, this collection of fifteen
wind-driven turbines is visable from many points near Carcoar. For closer
inspection, drive across the causeway of the Carcoar Dam.
